The first couple of weeks at a new school can be challenging. Here are some helpful tidbits so you know what to expect.
The Night Before
Depending on your child's age, he/she may be very nervous the night before school starts. Feeling nervous is very normal. Reassure your child (and yourself!) that everything will be okay. As a parent, you have done your research and know that your child is in the best care outside of mom & dad.
Morning Drop-off
Any time a child enters a new environment, leaving mom or dad can be a little difficult. Expect your child to cling to you and cry a little. This is a common reaction. Most children stop crying within a few minutes and begin playing with their new friends. Depending on your child's age and previous school history, goodbye's can be a little emotional the first couple of weeks.
During the Day
While your child is learning, playing and making new friends, it is usual for mom, dad, grandma and grandpa to wonder how your son/daughter is adjusting. Feel free to call or email as many times as you would like. We have an open door policy.
After School
The first couple weeks that your child is in a new school, they may come home very tired and their appetite may increase or decrease. This is very characteristic behavior in most children. After a couple weeks, your child will get use to all of the new stimulation in their classroom and adjust to their new friends, teachers and environment.
